Rightmove has submitted an application to launch a property search tool within ChatGPT, the portal announced, marking its latest move into artificial intelligence-powered search functionality.
The integration will allow users of both free and paid ChatGPT versions to access Rightmove’s property listings through conversational queries directly within the ChatGPT interface. Users will download the app from ChatGPT’s app directory and address prompts to “@Rightmove”.
How the integration works
The tool will enable searches across sales and rental properties, including new homes and built-for-rent developments, using natural language. For example, users could ask: “@Rightmove, I’ve been offered a job in Manchester. Can you suggest good areas to live for a young family, with excellent schools, where I could find a four-bed detached house between £400K-£450K?”
ChatGPT will return a carousel of properties matching the criteria, drawn from Rightmove’s live listings. The interface will provide a simplified version of Rightmove’s offering, with users directed to the main platform for full property details, filtering tools, and to contact agents and developers.
Testing phase
Rightmove described the launch as an experiment designed to understand consumer engagement during the early property discovery stage. Chief Technology and Operations Officer Tarah Lourens stated: “We will test and learn how ChatGPT users engage in the early stages of their property journey, acting as a stepping stone to the full and comprehensive property search experience on Rightmove.”
The app will evolve based on user interaction data, with insights feeding into future developments across Rightmove’s AI-powered search tools and partner services.
Wider AI strategy
The ChatGPT integration follows Rightmove’s launch earlier this month of a beta version of conversational search on its own platform. The portal previously introduced an ‘AI Keywords’ search feature on mobile apps and a ‘Style with AI’ visualisation tool in 2025.
The move represents Rightmove’s continued expansion into AI-assisted property search, positioning the technology as a potential shift in how consumers begin their property searches. The integration will test whether ChatGPT’s user base represents a viable channel for early-stage property discovery before users transition to traditional portal browsing.
